The first monograph dedicated to TrishaBaga, published for her solo show at PirelliHangarBicocca, Milan.This volume is a rare opportunity to explore the work of the artist, one of the greatest contemporary American filmmakers of her generation.
Published in occasion of the show , “theeye, theeye & theear” presented at Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, the catalogue is conceived as a Sci-Fi narration that expands the artist’s personal universe. Structured like a mise-en-abyme, the volume alternates excerpts of writings from the scientific, literary and artistic worlds. It also presents various critical texts: an essay by Lucia Aspesi and Fiammetta Griccioli, the curators of the show, avisualessay in collaboration with Trisha Baga, edited by Herb Tam, curator of the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) in New York, an essay by PavelPys´, curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, a conversation between Trisha Baga and the artist Lucy Ravenas well as an essay by Elisabeth Sherman, assistant curator at the Whitney Museum in NewYork. The catalogue also contains a vast photo documentation of the show in Milan and a complete filmographyby the artist.
Trisha Baga (Venice, Florida, 1985, lives and works in NewYork) is an American of Filipino origins and one of the most innovative artists and filmmakers of her generation. Her works combine different languages and media, drawing upon TV and cinema imagery, as well as amateur videos, to investigate topics like gender identity and the relationship between the real and the digital worlds, while allowing a different perspective of contemporaneity to emerge.
Lucia Aspesi and Fiammetta Griccioli are assistant curators at Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, where in 2019 they co-curated the solo exhibition of Daniel Steegmann Mangrané.
For Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, Lucia Aspesi worked on numerous projects including shows by Miroslaw Balka, Rosa Barba and Carsten Höller, and in 2019 she co-curated the show on Sheela Gowda, later presented at Bombas Gens, Valencia. Fiammetta Griccioli is an assistant curator at Pirelli Hangar Bicocca where she worked on numerous solo exhibitions and publications on artists like Joan Jonas, Philippe Parreno, Lucio Fontana and Mario Merz.
