To produce this photographic campaign, Gabriele Basilico travelled almost five thousand kilometres, exploring the Silicon Valley in all directions. He took more than 600 photographs measuring 10 x 12.
Invited by the S.F.M.O.M.A. (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) Department of Photography in 2007, Gabriele Basilico produced his first photographic campaign in the United States.
As in earlier projects, Gabriele Basilico’s work has a linear path: crossing parts of different territories that have one thing in common, that they are undergoing, or have recently undergone, transformation.
The itinerary starting point is the centre of San Francisco. Moving in a southerly direction, the photographer crosses the South Market, Mission and Potrero areas, to the borders of the city. He then follows route 101 to the Silicon Valley and San José.
The aim is to explore the nature and typology of settlement models, and compare them with the fascinating urban image of San Francisco.
