Ca' Pesaro. International Gallery of Modern Art
The guide, written by the museum director, is presented on two levels: the text accompanying the visit itself is accompanied by ‘windows’ giving further detail on the major artists represented. The exhibits range from nineteenth-century painting, mainly Venetian, with works by Francesco Hayez, Luigi Nono, Ettore Tito, Guglielmo Ciardi, Ippolito Caffi and Pelizza da Volpedo, to the grand Austrian-German period with Gustav Klimt, Emil Nolde, Georg Grosz, Vassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall and Max Ernst. Alongside these masterpieces are works by Max Klinger, Max Liebermann and Franz von Stuck, and by Dutch and Belgian painters such as Martin Khnopff, Permeke and Jan Toorop. The Spanish painters include Sorolla, Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies and Eduardo Chillida. Finally, there are works by Paul Klee, Yves Tanguy, Antonio Zoran Music and Matta. The Italian twentieth century opens up with Umberto Boccioni, Felice Casorati, Arturo Martini, Gino Rossi, Carlo Carrà, Mario Sironi, Filippo De Pisis, Giorgio de Chirico, Achille Funi, Massimo Campigli, Arturo Tosi, Giorgio Morandi, Osvaldo Licini and Ottone Rosai. The ‘New Front of the Arts’ is then represented with works by Giuseppe Santomaso, Emilio Vedova, Renato Birolli, Afro, Ennio Morlotti and Giulio Turcato.
There is a very high profile collection of Italian and international sculpture, including works by Troubetzkoy, Medardo Rosso, Adolfo Wildt, Arturo Martini, Francesco Messina, Max Klinger, Auguste Rodin and Alexander Calder. The more recent Italian sculptors include Alberto Viani, Giacomo Manzù and Arnaldo Pomodoro.
