This extensive study weaves together tradition, art and jewellery as it traces a unique visual and investigative path, describing how buckles for shoes, belts, trousers, cloaks, hats and more have for centuries been clear indicators of social status and changes in taste, constantly in step with aesthetic, technological and material innovations.
A compelling book whose images of a wide selection of buckles from the Pennasilico Collection, one of the most important in the world, enhance its research into the iconography of the buckle and whose portraits and vintage illustrations contextualise the use of buckles in all aspects of dress and chronicle the evolution of fashion from a new angle.
An essential source of information for all specialists and enthusiasts, designers and collectors of fashion, art, jewellery and accessories.
