Three years after Gianmaria Buccellati’s death and on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Foundation he established in 2008, this book illustrates a century in the history of goldsmith art through the treasures of the Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation, born from the genius of Mario and Gianmaria Buccellati, two of the most significant names in the world goldsmith's scene, heirs of the illustrious Italian tradition, which flourished during the Renaissance with Benvenuto Cellini.
By following the Renaissance canons Mario Buccellati, defined by Gabriele d’Annunzio as the “prince of goldsmiths”, created his works, reinterpreting them in a very personal, unique and easily recognizable way. He deserves credit for having made the “Buccellati style” famous around the world, appreciated by members of the ruling houses, by popes and by intellectuals. With a peculiar foresight and sense of philanthropy, in 2008 Gianmaria Buccellati decided to found his own foundation to promote the aesthetic values, the know-how and the story of Buccellati in the world. The Foundations Collection is made of an exclusive variety of jewels, objects of art and original drawings by Mario and Gianmaria Buccellati. Each piece expresses their unique talents in using antique goldsmithing techniques and their deep knowledge of art, which always inspired them to draw new designs.
