Widely recognized as one of Japan’s most celebrated contemporary artists, Hiroshi Senju is renowned for his sublimely beautiful paintings of waterfalls—imagery he has been exploring for more than fifteen years. The context for Senju’s art is as much the history of international modernist abstraction as it is Japanese landscape tradition or spiritual philosophy. Hiroshi Senju is the first Asian artist to receive an Honorable Mention Award at the Venice Biennale and his works are included in major museums, private collections and public spaces worldwide. He divides his time between New York and Japan, where he is the president of the Kyoto University of Art and Design.
