Peder Balke (1804–1887) is one of the most outstandingartists of Northern European Romanticism.Balke was originally trained as a house painter.However, his talent was recognized and Balke went toOslo. An event of great importance to Balke’s artisticdevelopment was a large commission from King LouisPhilippe of France.
